DCMS creative sector

Has there ever been a better time to work in the creative sector?

6 July 2023 | 5 min read

In June, we received the excellent news that the Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS) are going to inject £77 million into the creative sectors. By 2030, they want to bring in £50 billion and create a million new jobs. Here’s what Rishi Sunak said:

We are a creative, innovative country with a rich history of creating opportunities for all. The sector vision is a plan to build on this, breaking down barriers, capitalising on the tech opportunities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and keeping our world-class creative industries ahead of the growing international competition.

The PM is right – we’re a creative nation. But we’re also a proud sporting nation. And I’m excited that we bring these strands together at BAND via our unique team and diverse experiences.

Talking of experiences, I had what you might call “a moment” recently. I was travelling around London one Saturday when the sheer depth and variety of our arts and sports sectors hit me. It was a cumulative effect. First, I was on the Tube with my earphones in, listening to some great British artists. Then I noticed the myriad of ads showcasing the diverse mix of plays, shows, events, museums and art galleries that London has to offer. Then I went to an incredible football match. Finally, the next day, I watched some of the Coronation Concert coverage, where I saw the impressive display of staging, lighting, AV work and drone production. All this made me think: this is exactly why the UK’s creative businesses are admired worldwide.

Our creative and sporting sectors are indeed vast and awe-inspiring. They are vital parts of the UK’s social and economic fabric, contributing significantly not only to our cultural enrichment but also to our national GDP.

And that’s why I’m thrilled to be here at BAND, working alongside you all in the pulsing heart of the UK’s creative sector. I am privileged to be part of a team that shares my passion, and I’m excited about our exhilarating journey ahead.

I look forward to working with you all as we seize the opportunities that are available, and we play our part in shaping the UK’s thriving creative landscape together.
